RHBPC was asked to create a new pool and yard design on a challenging site in Irvington. The backyard sloped steeply down to a watercourse. The pool evolved into a grotto-type space with new rock walls, waterfall, soaking pool, hot tub and terrace. The solution involved extensive engineering of new retaining walls and a dramatic series of stairs, balconies, and terraces up to the main floor of the existing house. The clients also wanted to flatten the existing yard to allow a space for their children to play. An ensemble of gently curving site walls and landscaping hold the new yard back from the neighbors and provide a private space for play.
